Kick It Out planning talks with Newcastle to educate fans after takeover

Kick It Out is planning to hold talks with Newcastle United after a number of fans wore tea towels on their head to impersonate their new Saudi owners at Sunday's game against Tottenham.

According to the Daily Mail, the equality and inclusion group have plans to offer education workshops in Newcastle to explain to fans how wearing the tea towels could be considered racist, offensive, or culturally insensitive.

The organisation is hopeful of urgent talks with the club to ask Newcastle to discourage fans from wearing mock headdresses following the Saudi-backed consortium's takeover.

Hundreds of fans were spotted at St. James' Park imitating their new Saudi owners, but this misguided show of support could land them in hot water.

Kick It Out is hopeful they'll be able to offer educational workshops to explain to Magpies fans why this could be considered stereotypical and culturally offensive.

The recent takeover by the Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has made Newcastle one of the richest clubs in world football with PIF owning around 80 per cent of the club.

The governor of the PIF fund, Yasir Al-Rumayyan is Newcastle's new chairman and he was in attendance alongside Amanda Staveley for the Magpies 3-2 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
