In what may be the most wholesome news to brighten everyone’s days (and let’s be real, we need it) — Kic co-founder and CEO Laura Henshaw is pregnant!!!
She shared the news with a cheeky Instagram Reel of her ultrasound on Thursday. No text, no caption, no context. Just a black and white video of her giant cheeky grin and a growing baby on the monitor. Talk about a mic drop.
Laura, who co-founded health and wellness platform Kic with bestie Steph Claire Smith in 2015, has been open about her indecision to have kids.
“Thirty. The age that we’re ‘supposed’ to be married, own a home, have kids and have our ‘shit’ together, right?” she wrote for marie claire Australia in 2023.
“I may have checked off some ‘societal successes’, but as I’m approaching my 31st birthday, the hardest thing I’m having to confront is the inescapable biological reality that my fertility is decreasing with age. And I know I’m not alone.”
Last year, she released a three-part mini podcast series called ‘Do I Want Kids?‘, talking to child-free advocates, stay-at-home-mums, parents of all ages, relationship experts, and her husband Dalton Henshaw about it. It explored the many pressures to both have or have not kids, including environmental anxiety, career needs, financial stability, and the enormous, life-changing consequences of making a decision — whatever decision that is.
“I felt ashamed about it,” she told ELLE earlier this year of her indecision. “We live in this prenatal society, which basically means that in the society we live in, there is the assumption that we will have children.”
She continued: “I blinked and all my friends went from talking about contraception to being pregnant or having kids. And I started to feel like, what is wrong with me?”
In the same interview, she said she and Dalton were on the same page with kids: they wanted them, but not right now. And now they’re pregnant!
Huge huge congrats to both, we love a good news story.
