Kian Musgrove's family reveal 'massive relief' after cancer scare

Brave Kian Musgrove's family can breathe a sigh of relief after tests showed the eight-year-old's cancer had not returned.

The Prudhoe youngster has repeatedly battled an aggressive form of neuroblastoma since he was just 18 months old, although he's been without any issues since ending his treatment in 2018.

However his family faced their worst nightmare last Saturday night when an ambulance took Kian to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary after the youngster displayed a worrying symptom.

As he was put to bed, mum Kat noticed one of Kian's pupils was significantly bigger than the other. The rare condition, called Horner's Syndrome, sparked a raft of tests as one of the causes can be tumours.

However in a post on the Caring for Kian Facebook page, relieved Kat told the page's 40,000 followers that her son's MRI scan showed "no evidence" of disease.

"It is just a massive relief," said Kat, who got the all clear late on Friday evening.

She said that thoughts had been racing through her mind that Kian may need to return to New York, where he previously received treatment.

"All of those emotions I faced then all came back really hard," she admitted.

"I was concerned about how he would manage this time with the worrying, and it being mentioned in front of him with the scans, especially now he's older he would understand

"But he was OK and I don't think he cared what was going on, he just enjoyed playing on his Xbox!"

Tests are still ongoing to see what is behind the Horner's Syndrome, which is caused by damage to nerves in the face.

An eye test was carried out on Friday, and the family are waiting to see what the next stage is.

But crucially, the results show Kian is still winning the fight.

The family are still fundraising for potential future treatment. Please donate here.
