Arsenal have submitted a £13.6million offer for Sporting winger Joelson Fernandes, according to reports.
The Gunners are looking to improve their squad in the transfer window ahead of Mikel Arteta's first full season at the Emirates.
Arteta has led Arsenal to the final of the FA Cup, which will see them go up against London rivals Chelsea next month.
And whilst winning a trophy would represent a success for Arteta, the Gunners boss knows he will need to add fresh faces to his squad this summer.
According to Portuguese news channel TVI 24, one of the names targeted by Arsenal is teenage winger Fernandes.
The outlet claim the Gunners have followed up their interest with a £13.6million offer, and Sporting may be forced to accept the bid as the player is reportedly refusing to sign a new deal at the club.
It has been reported that Sporting have offered the 17-year-old a new contract which would increase his release clause but it looks increasingly unlikely that the club and player will find an agreement.
But newspaper Record claim that the player's agent, Kia Joorabchian - who has close links with Arsenal technical director Edu - will arrive in Lisbon at the beginning of next week to continue contract talks.
Fernandes has previously said that he is "flattered" to be linked with a move away from the Portuguese capital.
"It is true that being compared to these players puts a little extra pressure on me," Fernandes told O Jogo in a recent interview when asked about being compared to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I try to follow their example and play the best I can in each game.
"It is very flattering and I think it represents the value of my work," Fernandes added, on the subject of the reported interest.
"I did not look at that alleged interest very much, I am happy where I am and fighting to achieve my dream, which is to play for Sporting's first team.
"Nobody has told me about this extension offer yet. Besides, I try not to think about these things too much. I just want to play football."
