Kia dealer kick-starts 'football boots for refugees' campaign

FOOTBALL fans and players have the chance to win tickets to two major European games simply by donating a pair of boots to Kia dealer Flear & Thomson as part of the #PassThemOn campaign.

The bid to collect unwanted sports footwear is taking place during the UEFA Europa League Trophy Tour Driven by Kia that will visit several European cities between now and May 16.

In partnership with the UEFA Foundation for Children, the football boots donated to selected Kia dealerships and tour venues across Europe will be taken to the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan and given to young Syrian refugees in July.

The inaugural tour last year was a huge success, with 1052 pairs of boots donated by fans across the continent. UEFA has supported the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan for many years by providing football pitches and equipment to let young people play the beautiful game.

Every fan donating a pair of boots at all tour locations and participating dealerships will have the chance to win tickets to the UEFA Europa League final in Gdansk, Poland, on May 27.

And to kick-start the effort in Scotland, Flear & Thomson is giving away two pairs of tickets for the Europa League game of Rangers FC v Bayern Leverkusen on Thursday, March 12, at Ibrox Stadium.

To be in with a chance of winning, just visit the dealer’s facebook page (www.facebook.com/FlearandThomson) follow, comment with #flearandthomsontickets and share to friends.

There’s no requirement to give boots to enter the draw for the Rangers game but any would obviously be appreciated.

Flear & Thomson director Scott Buchanan said: “Football has the power to unite and can bring children so much joy and happiness, so we are looking for help in collecting as many pairs of sports footwear and football boots as possible.

“We have ex-professional football players within the dealer team who have already been busy calling in favours from former clubs and current Scottish Premiership players. So spread the word to all your local teams to help with this worthwhile cause.”

All boots can be handed in to either the Flear & Thomson Kia dealership at Pittencrieff Street, Dunfermline, or its showroom at Springkerse Trade Park, Stirling.

“We are extremely excited to bring back the UEFA Europa League Trophy Tour Driven by Kia for a second year,” said Artur Martins, global brand and marketing head at Kia.

“The huge success of the first tour meant football fans of all ages had the chance to donate their old football boots to a very deserving cause, and see the trophy up close. This year, we hope to receive even more donations and help young refugees take part in this wonderful game.”
