Ki Sung-yueng's father makes transfer admission in interview in South Korea

Newcastle United midfielder Ki is angling for a January move - according to the player's father.

The former Swansea City and Sunderland man has not featured for the Magpies since the 5-0 hammering at Leicester City and has played just three times this season.

A move for Ki would at least free up a place in the squad for Steve Bruce to bring in a January signing, but he also has Jack Colback and Henri Saivet as cover in that position.

Both midfielders are available for transfers in January.

Ki's father said: "He is trying to find a new home in January next year, and the contract with Newcastle is through May.

"The key is whether the club will consider freeing him as a free agent."

Ki's contract will be up in the summer after his move from the Swans in 2018.

Ki has been ruled out of the trip to Burnley with a knock.

Bruce is assessing muscle injuries to Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron at training this morning.
