Ki-Jana Hoever: Liverpool's 16-year-old defender breaks club FA Cup record

Ki-Jana Hoever made his Liverpool first-team debut on Monday evening, coming on as a substitute against Wolves in the FA Cup.

The 16-year-old replaced the injured Dejan Lovren just five minutes into the Reds' third-round tie at Molineux after the Croatian signalled his inability to continue to the bench.

Hoever, who is days away from his 17th birthday, has impressed since moving to Anfield from Ajax in his homeland in September and becomes Liverpool's youngest ever player to appear in the FA Cup.

The Amsterdam-born defender turned down a professional contract from the Dutch club in order to join up with the Reds.

He has since featured for both the U18s and U23s and trained regularly at Melwood in the absence of injured duo Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

And another fitness blow to Jurgen Klopp has handed the teenager a chance to impress at senior level for the first time this evening.
