Khari Willis takes home two awards from Michigan State athletics

Khari Willis has become the fifth athlete in Michigan State history to win the Big Ten Medal of Honor and Chester Brewer Leadership award in the same season.

The Medal of Honor award is given out to student-athletes who exude excellence both on and off the field of play.

The Chester Brewer Leadership award is given to student-athletes who achieve success on the field and in the classroom as well as display high character and leadership.

The Big Ten Medal of Honor was first awarded in 1915 to one student-athlete from the graduating class of each university who had “attained the greatest proficiency in athletics and scholastic work,” according to a release from MSU.

Willis was a captain and leader for the Michigan State defense, one of the most vaunted units in the country. He recorded 196 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and four sacks, along with four interceptions and 16 pass break-ups in his career. Willis was named second-team all-B1G and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the 4th round of the NFL Draft.
