Khari Willis’ foot injury ‘doesn’t seem too bad’

Indianapolis Colts rookie safety Khari Willis had to leave the Week 8 win against the Denver Broncos after suffering a foot injury, but the team appears encouraged by the prognosis a day after.

Head coach Frank Reich gave an update to the media via a conference call on Monday, detailing that the Colts will be cautious but that there is optimism.

“Yeah, the only update is we’ll see how it progresses. But the preliminary reports seem to be positive,” Reich said Monday. “The preliminary reports seem to be positive but you never know with these things. You’ve got to give it a couple days after a game to see how it responds. But initially the day after it doesn’t seem too bad.”

Entering the matchup on Sunday, Willis had played 100% of the defensive snaps in each of the last games. That was both due to injuries and the fact that Willis has been emerging as a constant play-maker from the secondary.

With Malik Hooker just now returning from a torn meniscus, the Colts got to see a bit of what the future at the position could look like. However, Willis played just 22 snaps (30%) before exiting.

The injury reports this week will give a better idea as to how long Willis might be out, but the team doesn’t seem overly concerned that it is a long-term issue right now.
