Khalil Mack got his first sack in six weeks — and he made it count.
With about six minutes left in the first half against the Texans on Sunday, the Bears’ outside linebacker sacked Deshaun Watson for a safety. It marked Mack’s first sack since the team’s Nov. 1 loss to the Saints.
Mack’s sack — which gave the Bears a 16-7 lead — came one play after Bilal Nichols sacked Watson. The Bears’ two sacks at that point matched their output for the entirety of the Lions game a week ago. They didn’t touch Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers the week before that.
Mack didn’t appear in the scorebook last week, when the Bears lost to the Lions.
Mack is already having his best game in months. He stuffed Texans running back Duke Johnson, forcing and recovering his fumble, to end the Texans’ second drive of the afternoon.
He didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday, and was limited Friday, because of a shoulder injury.
Mack had 6 1⁄2 sacks entering Sunday’s game at Soldier Field. He finished with 8 1⁄2 all last season.
