When the Chicago Bears needed him most, kicker Eddy Pineiro came through with a 53-yard game-winning field goal that delivered the first victory of the season.
Outside linebacker Khalil Mack, who had one sack and one pass defended against the Broncos, was certainly impressed by Pineiro’s kick.
“Eddy P, you know what I’m sayin’, birthday man,” Mack said in a postgame interview. “He came out there and nailed that [expletive]. That’s how you want to play ball.”
Pineiro was perfect on the day, connecting on field goals of 40, 52 and 53 yards. For the position that seemed to be the Bears’ biggest concern, Pineiro might just have broken that kicker curse that has haunted Chicago.
The Bears will get an extra day of rest before traveling to Washington to play the Redskins on Monday night, when Chicago will hope to avoid another close finish.
The Bears should feel good knowing Pineiro can deliver.
