Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman held talks in Jeddah on Monday with United Nations envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths on the latest developments in the war-torn country.
In a tweet, the envoy said: “We discussed recent developments, including progress on de-escalation, Hodeidah and the political process. We exchanged constructive ideas of how to sustain the current momentum and help Yemen move ahead.”
Meanwhile, Yemeni Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hadrami stated Tuesday that the Houthi militias have proven that they are an Iranian pawn aimed at destabilizing Yemen and the region.
Speaking on the sidelines of an Arab foreign ministers meeting in New York, he remarked that the September 14 attack against Saudi oil facilities proves without a doubt that the Houthis are completely allied to the Iranian regime.
The ministers were in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
Hadrami reiterated Yemen’s strong condemnation of the attack, which not only targeted Saudi Arabia, but the entire region and the world’s energy supplies.
Yemen stands by the Kingdom in all measure it takes to preserve its security and safety of vital installations, he stressed.
In New York, the minister held talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
They discussed the prospects for a political solution to the conflict in Yemen. Guterres reiterated the UN’s commitment to work with the parties to realize the full implementation of the Stockholm Agreement, said a readout from the organization.
He emphasized the UN’s commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Yemen.
