Khabib Nurmagomedov teases retirement U-turn after using Conor McGregor taunt

Khabib Nurmagomedov has dropped his biggest hint yet that he will come out of retirement and fight again - and referenced Conor McGregor in doing so.

Last October, the Dagestan fighter hung up the gloves after his third successful defence of his lightweight title over Justin Gaethje.

Khabib then revealed that he had promised his mother he wouldn't fight without his father in his corner.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov passed away after a battle with Covid-19 last year.

But UFC president Dana White refused to give up hope of convincing the unbeaten champion to return for a 30th fight.

And Nurmagomedov has now met with former UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and later tweeted:

"It was good to see you Lorenzo. Dana White, send me location."

"Send me location" has become the champion's trademark phrase after first using it in 2018 to call out Conor McGregor.

It was rumoured earlier this year that if McGregor could beat Dustin Poirier, Khabib would step out of the shadows for a rematch of their fight at UFC 229.

Those plans went awry when Poirier stopped McGregor in two rounds.

McGregor and Poirier are now due to fight for a third time this summer while Gaethje is set to take on Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson will face Beneil Dariush.

This was meant to be part of a tournament to decide an interim lightweight champion.

McGregor has long insisted he would beat Nurmagomedov in a rematch having blamed his defeat on his erratic preparations.

The Poirier defeat threw a spanner in the works but now Khabib's announcement could set the ball rolling on a second tussle between the two.
