Khabib Nurmagomedov takes fresh swipe at Conor McGregor over rematch

Khabib Nurmagomedov has dismissed the idea of a rematch with Conor McGregor .

The UFC lightweight champion submitted the Irishman last October to retain his title in Las Vegas.

Both men were then involved in a shameful post-fight riot before being slapped with six month bans.

Nurmagomedov will return in Abu Dhabi in September against Dustin Poirier but McGregor remains sidelined.

And the Russian said: "In the last three years he has one win in amateur boxing.

"He tapped; he begged me to let him live. How does he deserve a rematch?"

Poirier will put his interim 155lb belt on the line in the autumn - and knows he has a challenge on his hands.

He said: "He's good. I can't sit up here and say bad things about him." "I just have to take him to dark places he's never been before."

Nurmagomedov, who also plans to fight in December, meanwhile, wants to cement his legacy in the sport and named his three favoured opponents.

"I respect him as a human, as a fighter. He fought a lot of tough guys, his last fight with Max [Holloway] impressed me," he said.

"If he wants to become champion, he's going to have to finish me.

"For my legacy, I have to beat Dustin, Tony Ferguson, and GSP. This is how I become pound-for-pound number one.

"Life has changed, I became a little more famous. But in my mind, nothing has changed. I kept going, I knew it was not my last fight."
