Khabib Nurmagomedov's father dies from Covid-19 complications

UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov's father has died from complications related to Covid-19.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov passed away at a Moscow hospital aged just 57 after a battle with coronavirus.

The MMA coach suffered a heart attack after being diagnosed with the deadly virus and was twice placed into a medically-induced coma.

His condition had been reported as 'serious but stable' in recent weeks, but he has now sadly lost his life.

He had been cleared of Covid-19, but had complications with his kidneys and heart as a result of the virus.

The death comes just over a week after Conor McGregor claimed that he figured Khabib dad's coronavirus illness was a cover up for Khabib pulling out of a fight with Tony Ferguson in May.

In a post on social media which was then deleted, McGregor said: "I figured it was all just a cover up about Abdulmanap.

"A cover up to hide the lack of activity and the pulling out of fights and running away. Good luck but remember - Allah sees all!"

That came after McGregor had wished Abdulmanap well in May, saying: "Praying for the recovery of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. A man responsible for more world champions, across multiple fighting disciplines, than we even know.

"A true martial genius! Very saddened upon hearing this news tonight. Praying for the Nurmagomedov family at this time."

Speaking last month about his father, UFC lightweight champion Khabib said: "The coronavirus itself is behind him, but the virus has had consequences for his kidneys and his heart.

"As for the virus, there's no need to worry, only about the other consequences.

"I visit him, he recognises me, but there's no communication because he's connected to [medical] devices.

"Every day they let me in, I spend half an hour [with him], I hold his hand.

"When I ask: 'Father, do you recognise me?' He gestures and lets me know."

Tributes have been pouring in for Abdulmanap on social media.

UFC lightweight fighter Jan Blachowicz said: "Sincerest condolences to @TeamKhabib. RIP Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov."

Politician and broadcaster George Galloway commented: "Sincere condolences @TeamKhabib on the loss of your dear father to #COVIDー19 at the age of just 57. May God grant him paradise and give you the strength to bear his loss."
