Khabib Nurmagomedov's brilliant response to Sir Alex Ferguson wine offer

Khabib Nurmagomedov has revealed his amusing response to Sir Alex Ferguson asking if he wanted a glass of wine after Manchester United’s draw with Everton at the weekend.

The UFC legend was at Old Trafford to see United draw 1-1 with the Toffees on Saturday, and even posed for a picture whilst holding the no. 7 shirt worn by his friend Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as a snap with Paul Pogba.

Khabib met Sir Alex, Usain Bolt and former United left-back Patrice Evra after the game where he was offered a beverage by the iconic former United boss, which the 33-year-old turned down with a light-hearted response, reports The Manchester Evening News.

The Dagestani native said: "Alex [Ferguson] asked me about wine. For him, it's good. I don't judge him.

"But how I have to explain to him. There are two things. You can be straight and say 'no, no, no, I am Muslim and I don't drink'.

"But I told him, 'this is not good, because if I drink I can smash all you guys'.

"Being Muslim, it is not easy, but at same time you don't have to make this tough. Just be a good person and show them you're Muslim.

"I think Usain Bolt and Patrice Evra, they understand. But Sir Alex Ferguson understand and he don't want me to smash everyone, too.

"So he say, 'OK, you don't drink wine'."

Khabib revealed to United’s official website that he was not at Old Trafford to support the Red Devils, despite receiving a tour of the stadium and spending time with legends of the club.

He explained: “I’ll be honest, I’m not a sole Manchester United fan. I’m more of a fan of all football.”

The former lightweight champion also revealed he met Ronaldo and Paul Pogba before the game, though he was surprised to hear that neither of them made the starting line-up.

He added: “Yeah we spoke a little and we discussed today’s match, but they told me they’re going to be on the bench!

“With Paul being a World Cup winner and Cristiano a European Championship winner, they have a lot of titles. It was interesting for me to talk to them and compare things with them.”
