Khabib Nurmagomedov responds to claims he'll fight winner of Conor McGregor v Dustin Poirier

Khabib Nurmagomedov insists that a rematch with Conor McGregor or Dustin Poirier won't tempt him back to UFC action.

The undefeated Russian announced his retirement in October after he retained his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje.

But UFC boss Dana White is naturally keen to tempt 'The Eagle' back to the octagon - with a potential McGregor rematch likely to smash pay-per-view records.

Khabib, 32, has repeatedly stated that he has no interest in fighting McGregor  - who he submitted in 2018.

Nurmagomedov recorded a submission win over Poirier in September 2019 and it appears the prospect of a Poirier rematch would not be enough to tempt him back to the octagon either.

He is set to attend McGregor and Poirier's January fight but when asked by Russian journalist Igor Lazorin whether he would face the winner, Khabib replied: “What for? I choked both? Why I should do this?

“There is no sports interest there,” Nurmagomedov said. “I choked both of them, both were champions, both surrendered to me.

"As our proverb says: A horse doesn’t run until the donkey wins.

"Donkeys don't even take part in competitions where horses run. I have no interest in fighting against these opponents. Imagine UFC offered you $100 million.

"This is already a problem. But there is no sports interest there.”

Nurmagomedov insists he has no plans for a comeback after making an emotional decision to call it quits following the death of his father and long-time coach Abdulmanap.

“There are many questions about whether I will be back to competing or not,” Nurmagomedov added. “However, I don’t have such plans.”
