Khabib Nurmagomedov "p***** off* despite UFC Hall of Fame announcement

Khabib Nurmagomedov was "p***** off" despite being inducted into the promotion's Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

It was announced during the UFC 272 on Saturday night that now-retired UFC great Nurmagomedov will be inducted into the Hall’s modern fighter wing.

The Russian's induction will also be joined by the likes of Georges St-Pierre, Rashad Evans, Michael Bisping and Ronda Rousey in the summer.

Nurmagomedov refused to fight again after the death of his father Adulmanap and retired after making the last defence of his UFC when he submitted Justin Gaethje in October 2020.

He fought 13 times for the UFC after being signed by the promotion in 2011, defeating household names such as Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Rafael Dos Anjos during that run.

And UFC boss Dana White said of his induction: “Khabib is one of the greatest athletes to ever compete in professional sports. No one dominated their opponents that way Khabib did.

"To retire undefeated, as lightweight champion and the #1 pound-for-pound athlete in the world is an incredible accomplishment. It will be an honour to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.”

But when asked how Nurmagomedov reacted to the news, White revealed the fighter wasn't in the best mood at the event

"He was p***** off tonight, I don't know what happened to Khabib tonight," he said.

A possible reason for Nurmagomedov being frustrated is after his teammate Tagir Ulanbekov suffered a controversial split decision loss to Tim Elliott on the UFC 272 prelims.

Ulanbekov was dropped by a big left hand from Elliott in the first round, but he did a good job of recovering and fighting back until the bell.

The next two rounds were close, but Ulanbekov lost on all three judges' scorecards despite almost securing a rear-naked choke in the last minute of the fight.

The loss was Ulabenkov's first in over three years, winning his last five fights since being narrowly outpointed by Zhalgas Zhumagulov in 2018.

In the other fight of Nurmagomedov's coaching duties at UFC 272, his cousin Umar remained undefeated by submitting Brian Kelleher.

Nurmagomedov's coaching abilities in the past have been praised with his other cousin Usman believing he could be a better coach than he was a fighter.
