KFC workers seen preparing meals with no gloves or masks sparking concerns

A KFC customer has raised concerns after she spotted staff preparing meals without gloves or masks on.

The woman said she went through the Grimsby drive-thru and ordered a mini fillet burger – her first takeaway since the UK entered into lockdown.

She claims during her visit, at around 4pm on Sunday, not all KFC workers were wearing masks and those who were, were not wearing them correctly, Grimsby Live reports.

She also claimed one was seen through the serving window scratching their nose as they worked in the kitchen.

The fast food giant has said it has now spoken to staff in its Grimsby restaurant about public safety, but said it doesn't make staff wear masks while preparing food.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: “They’re not bothered at all. They’re acting as if we’re not in the middle of a pandemic.

“Not everybody was wearing gloves and masks and they were not abiding by social distancing.

“Those who were wearing masks, were not even wearing them correctly – they were not covering their noses.”

The woman also claims to have seen a server pull her face covering down to scratch her nose before carrying on “working as normal”.

She added: “The people in the back who prepare the food were the same - they’re not wearing masks correctly and they’re touching their faces.

“I did not see anyone use hand sanitiser or wash their hands while I sat there.”

The woman said she spoke with a manager and raised her health and safety concerns.

Since reopening, KFC has introduced new safety measures including capacity limits and hand sanister.

They have installed new Perspex screen throughout many of their restaurants – but do not make their workers wear face coverings when preparing meals.

A KFC spokeswoman said: “Our restaurants operating responsibly for our guests and team members is a top priority for us.

“As in many workplaces, wearing a mask is optional but our team members are asked to wear gloves when handling packaging, so we’ve reminded our team in Grimsby to make sure we’re getting it right.”
