KFC to trial a vegan 'imposter' burger - with the chicken replaced by Quorn

It's been half a year since Greggs released its vegan 'sausage roll'.

Since then, the likes of Tesco, Milligans and Aldi have released similar products, Subway has launched a vegan sandwich, and Greggs itself has enjoyed a boom in sales , which could indicate veganism is more than a trend, but a dietary requirement which can no longer be ignored by the big hitters.

Over in the US, Burger King stocks a vegan Whopper, but back in the UK, KFC is the latest fast food chain to release an animal-free version of one of their classics.

KFC is now trialling a vegan 'chicken' burger, with the meat replaced by a bespoke Quorn fillet, coated in Original Recipe herbs and spices, with lettuce and vegan mayo.

Subway launches first ever vegan sub

The 'Imposter Burger' is available for four weeks at selected KFCs in London, Bristol and the Midlands, Mirror Online reports ,  but it could be rolled out nationwide if it proves to be a hit with customers.

Victoria Robertson, from  KFC UK & Ireland said: “We know… it’s unfair. Vegans have been cruelly denied the incredible taste of KFC up to now, which is why we’ve worked hard to perfect The Imposter – a vegan burger that the Colonel would be proud of.”

Tony Davison, Head of Global Foodservice & QSR at Quorn said: "A vegan KFC? We couldn’t believe it either. But we’ve done it – working with KFC we’ve created a bespoke Quorn fillet that does the Colonel’s recipe justice. We have no doubt that KFC fans are going to love the modern take on a finger lickin’ favourite."
