What’s new: Yum China said on Tuesday it will start selling imitation meat products supplied by Beyond Meat Inc. at its KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants starting Wednesday.
The collaboration will see KFC and Pizza Huts in China, as well as Yum China’s Taco Bell restaurants, offer Beyond Burgers for a limited time, the two companies announced.
The move marks the official entry for Beyond Meat’s signature product into China.
Background: The announcement marks the second major tie-up for Beyond Meat in China, following a similar partnership with coffee giant Starbucks in April.
KFC also began experimenting with meat substitutes around the same time through a brief promotion that offered imitation chicken nuggets at three different restaurants using products supplied by U.S. agricultural giant Cargill.
Besides Beyond Meat, Hong Kong-based Green Monday has also been aggressively moving into China since the rollout of its first imitation pork product, OmniPork, in 2018.
