KFC shuts in Skegness and rumours have started circulating about what could replace it

When you're on holiday, treating yourself to a fast food meal if often part of the fun.

But some holidaymakers and locals have been left disappointed by the announcement that KFC in Skegness has closed.

The branch near to the train station has now closed, but the coastal town does have another KFC.

The latter opened for the first time in June this year as part of a highly controversial development which also brought a Premier Inn and the Steamboat Cookhouse and Pub to the seafront, LincolnshireLive reports.

Now, KFC has announced that it has closed the restaurant on Lumley Square near the train station.

A spokesperson for KFC said: "Lumley Square might have closed but, fear not, our new drive-thru on Sea Lane is on hand to make sure the people of Skegness are never far away from a KFC."

It is not yet known what is planned for the now vacant property.

KFC chose not to comment on the rumours online that it will be replaced by Costa Coffee.

Customers reported that the doors had been closed on November 30.

There was a mixed reaction when news broke of the closure on social media.

"This was always going to be the case when the new one opened and got established," one person wrote.

"Fingers crossed for a Nando's!"

Another said: "It was a matter of time - trade in the town centre like most others is on the decline. But it's a sad sign when major food outlets can't compete."
