Fried chicken and waffles, move over.

Regular stuffed crust pizza, step aside.

In today’s crazy food mash-ups news, KFC is sweetening up the Chicken Sandwich War with its test of Fried Chicken & Donuts in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia, and Pittsburgh restaurants.

KFC’s test includes the Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donuts Sandwich with a chicken fillet between two glazed doughnuts for $5.99 and the Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donut Basket meal, with choice of chicken on the bone and a doughnut for $5.49 or $7.49 for a big basket.

Pizza Hut also announced a combination of its pizza with Cheez-It cheese snacks: Stuffed Cheez-It Pizza.

The new pizza is available nationwide for a limited time at the regular price of $6.49 and includes four baked jumbo squares that look like giant Cheez-It crackers. The squares are stuffed with cheese or pepperoni and cheese and served with marinara dipping sauce.

Starting Sept. 24, they will be added to Pizza Hut’s $5 N’ Up Lineup and will be $6 when you buy two or more $5 N’ Up Lineup menu items.

KFC said through its pilot, it is “evaluating consumer appetite for bringing this growing food trend to its customers on a national scale.”
