KFC restaurant ranked 'worst in the UK’ due to 'food poisoning' and 'slow service'

A takeaway rated the UK’s worst KFC restaurant has received criticisms over food poisoning, slow service, poor hygiene and incorrect orders.

Out of more than 900 stores across the country, the branch on Brixham Road, Paignton, Devon has the worst reviews on TripAdvisor.

Some 198 people have rated the branch as 'terrible' out of 285 people and only 21 people gave it five stars.

Some of the reviews have described it as "the worst KFC I've ever been to" and others say they would give it less than a one star rating if it had been possible, DevonLive reports.

A KFC spokesperson said: “The Colonel is passionate about his food always being finger lickin’ good, so we’re sorry to see these reviews.

“The restaurant has a good hygiene rating and the management team are working hard to improve reviews.

“We always encourage our fans to get in touch when things don’t go to plan so we can try and make it right as quickly as possible.”

The restaurant has been slammed for frequently running out of chicken. One reviewer wrote: “Considering KFC only sell chicken, I think it is pathetic how they can run out of chicken during the day.

“This is like going to a swimming pool which has no water."

Another person claimed to have caught food poisoning four days before Christmas last year. ”I spent the first day and night vomiting every five minutes,” they wrote. “And crying in pain.

“I don’t think I’ll EVER be having a KFC again.”

One person claimed it was quicker to drive to Exeter: "Worst KFC, I live in Paignton and drive up to Marsh Barton Exeter to get mine, even with the return journey included it's still quicker than Paignton KFC and you get food that's actually cooked.

“They also normally give you the right order in Exeter too, unlike Paignton!

A recent review said: “You got to feel sorry for the staff...however such poor management and staff to customer ratio.

“Waited up to an hour for drive through - just a joke.”

Another added: "Awful food and awful service. Have tried twice and both occasions have been bad so won't bother coming back and highly recommend others do the same.

“We have had much better experiences in KFC branches in Newton Abbot/Exeter etc.”

Poor service was a common complaint on the review site. One person wrote: "If you have 45 minutes to an hour to spare it’s very entertaining to watch the staff stare vacantly and move slowly around behind the counter whilst customers complain about the time their orders are taking.”

Mike from Paignton said he took his grandson and the place was empty and the food was cold, adding: "This standard is unacceptable for a national chain, and this branch is letting the brand down.

“Now I know why it is so quiet and McDonald's along the road is heaving.”

The latest review gave 1/10 for effort: "This is honestly the worst KFC I’ve ever been to, they can never get anything right, you can ask for a small fries and you’ll get a large Diet Pepsi."
