KFC pleads with customers as huge mess of laughing gas canisters dumped outside Avonmeads takeaway

KFC has urged customers not to litter after laughing gas canisters and takeaway packaging were dumped around a Bristol branch.

The fast food chain resumed delivery or driveway service at 500 branches this month after closing in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Pictures from today (May 22) showed a large mess around the KFC in Avonmeads Retail Park, off St Philips Causeway.

The clutter included laughing gas canisters, which were scattered around the car park, alongside discarded cola cups, paper bags and chicken boxes.

It comes as KFC has been forced to plead with customers across the UK not to litter – advice which a spokeswoman reiterated in light of today's pictures from Avonmeads.

KFC said: "Fried chicken fans, we've missed you. A lot. And we know you've missed us too. We saw those homemade attempts and they really made us smile.

"But something that doesn't make us smile is people spoiling our communities and wrecking the environment. Yup, litter. So that's why we're asking you, with love, not to be a tosser."

Legislation introduced in 2016 banned selling laughing gas, also known as "noz", for psychoactive purposes.

The canisters left outside KFC lay next to a box labelled "cream chargers".

The supply of laughing gas is difficult to control because it has legal uses, one of which is to produce whipped cream.

KFC's statement continues: "Our team members are on the case carrying out regular litter picks around restaurants.

"So when we still see photos online of KFC litter on UK and Irish streets, we really do throw our wings up in despair.

"Being a good neighbour matters, so we just want to encourage you to take your litter home with you, or toss it in the bin.

"With great chicken comes great responsibility. Let's all do our bit."
