KFC is absolutely roasting people's home-made fried chicken on Twitter

After weeks of restaurant closures, a drive-thru dinner is fast becoming a distant memory.

Fast food fans will have a while to wait for their next fix, with no end to the lockdown yet in sight.

And now many people have suddenly found themselves with more time to spend in the kitchen, there've been some creative attempts to make our favourite meals at home.

First there was the McDonald's Big Mac and burger sauce recipe, and then the fast food giant shared the secrets to its McMuffins and hash browns too.

Then there was the man who claims to have spent 18 months perfecting a recipe for KFC-style chicken - including the Colonel's closely guarded secret blend of herbs and spices.

Now KFC has challenged fans to recreate their favourite meals at home - and absolutely roasting the results on Twitter.

"We’re Kentucky FRIED Chicken, not Kentucky cook it in a lukewarm bath for 9 minutes Chicken," they said of one particularly pallid-looking thigh.

"A wet blue Rizla is a stronger skin than this," was the crushing verdict on a soggy-looking drumstick.

An attempt to recreate a Zinger Stacker burger also failed to impress.

"This is the saddest thing I’ve seen and I’ve watched the Futurama episode where the dog waits outside for Fry," KFC tweeted in response.

Others had a more successful stab at it, including this keen bean who even made their own box.

"Cor we have a contender alright. The font of the letters is nearly bang on, the chips look great and the chicken very passible [sic]," KFC tweeted.

Pfft. Nobody likes an overachiever.

You can share your attempts - or just laugh at other people's results - by following the #RateMyKFC hashtag on Twitter and Instagram.
