KFC fans lay siege to fast food joint for second day in a row as queues wind round Heathfield Retail Park

KFC fans have laid siege to the fast food restaurant in Ayr for a second day after it reopened from lockdown.

Queues have been winding round Heathfield Retail Park as punters return for their finger lickin' action.

It comes as chaotic scenes have greeted the reopening of the food chain's restaurants across Ayrshire and beyond.

Similar scenes were reported in Kilmarnock today as queues waited patiently for their chicken.

KFC has reopened 55 of its UK branches on a drive-thru basis as the firm seeks to slowly get operations back to normal.

One onlooker at Ayr said: "It's been like a stampede and people have clearly gone stir-crazy in the house for the last seven weeks.

"It's a miracle KFC haven't run out of chicken in there because they will never have been this busy."

KFC was among the non-essential shops,  bars and restaurants  ordered to close doors as the country went into full lockdown on March 23.

But the company confirmed its reopening in a statement which said: “We're reopening in a responsible way, this means we'll be serving a limited menu to help the smaller kitchen teams maintain  social distance.

“If you’re not near one of our open restaurants, never fear.

"We’re working hard to reopen more over the coming weeks.”
