KFC customer furious after paying full price despite Eat Out to Help Out scheme

A KFC customer has slammed the fast food chain after she was charged full price for her meal despite visiting after the Government's Eat Out to Help Out Scheme was introduced.

According to KentLive, the customers visited her local KFC on Monday, August 3 - the same day the scheme was introduced.

She said: "I was looking at the Government website the day before to see all the local places that were participating, and I wrote a list of where we could visit to make use of the scheme and to support the businesses.

"We walked in and noticed the self-service machines were all switched off.

"Everyone was told to pay at the till, whereas last week use of the self-service machines was being encouraged."

A manager told the customer they had received an email that morning explaining that they will not be offering the scheme, with machines that were pre-programmed to apply the discount were switched off.

Posters advertising the scheme were also taken down as a result.

The customer added: "I felt lied to. The signs have been up to say that they were going to participate, everything said that they were.

"There was nothing inside to say that they would no longer apply the scheme until after you pay and realise.

"We spoke to other customers inside who were also expecting the scheme to be applied, and I saw lots of comments on Twitter also saying the same thing."

A KFC spokesman said: “We’re offering guests 50% discount across the board, up to £10 per person with no minimum spend.

"As per the Government intentions for the scheme, it’s available on food ordered to eat in on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays throughout August.

"We currently have 580 restaurants participating, which you can find on our website.

"For those worrying they’ll miss out, we’re also adding even more over the next couple of days to bring this up to around 700 of our restaurants."

All KFC restaurants should now be offered the discount Monday-Wednesday. You can find your nearest here.
