KFC appear to pay to promote tweet slamming their own food

A tweet slamming KFC chips, originally published back in 2014, resurfaced today after it appeared the fast food giant was paying to promote it.

The tweet posted by @charliejburness read: "I've got to say KFC are riding solely on their chicken because Christ, those are c*** fries".

Underneath the post it reads "Promoted by KFC UK and Ireland," suggesting the fast food chain may have put money behind the post.

Naturally, Twitter users found the situation hilarious and reacted to the original post — even though it is now four years old.

Once user said: "They really should teach their bots to read."

While another Twitter user found the situation incredibly funny, saying: "I am screaming at this 4 year old tweet being promoted by KFC?!"

Another merely suggested there was an explanation for the occurrence, stating: "KFC are promoting it because they are getting new fries."

To which KFC UK & Ireland replied with a series of eye emojis.

The Standard has reached out to KFC for a comment.
