KFC has sparked health concerns with the launch of its new 80-piece bucket of popcorn chicken, after people spotted a worrying detail.
Priced at £5.99, the massive tub of chicken contains a whopping 1,220 calories and six grams of salt and has come under fire from health experts, the Daily Star reports.
Following a successful trial in Glasgow, the mighty sharing bucket has now gone on sale across 900 KFC stores for a limited time in the UK.
This might be great news for chicken lovers, but health professionals have expressed serious concern.
Paul Evans, from the British Obesity Forum, warned: "They are basically serving up obesity in a bucket and slowly killing their customers in the process."
Clare Thornton-Wood, a dietitian and spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association, said: "If you ate even half the bucket that would be over 25 per cent of an adult female’s daily calorie limit in one sitting and even more of a child’s.
"On a positive note, the fat content is relatively low in comparison to other fast foods.
"Could the bucket be at least portioned so people have an idea of what the correct portion looks like?"
Public Health England recommends that we should stick to 1,600 calories a day along with no more than six grams of salt.
The NHS has warned that high-calorie and high-salt diets can raise blood pressure and increase the risk of strokes and heart disease.
A KFC spokesperson said: "We’re all about sharing at KFC and our new 80-piece Popcorn Sharing Bucket is no different. It’s made to be enjoyed by four or more people."
All that said, KFC fans don't appear fazed by the colossal calorie count of the 80-piece popcorn chicken bucket.
One Twitter user wrote: "All I want is a KFC 80 piece popcorn chicken bucket."
Another added: "Need this 80 piece popcorn chicken bucket ASAP."
A third wrote: "I think about an 80 piece popcorn chicken bucket covered in a large gravy every single day."
