Key witness spoke to motorcyclist in Ashington moments before he crashed into car and died

A key witness could have vital information on a crash which killed a biker in Northumberland.

Shortly after 7.45am on Friday, August 21, police were called to a report that a motorcycle had collided with a stationary car on Green Lane in Ashington.

Emergency services were on the scene but sadly the 32-year-old biker died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

He was identified as Darryl Townsley and police officers have been supporting his family while carrying out an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

The inquiries are ongoing but now, four months on, officers have been made aware of a potential key witness.

They need to identify a woman who was seen speaking to Darryl near to the roundabout of Green Lane and Briardene as he was getting onto his motorcycle immediately before the collision.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "As most you enjoy the festivities, Darryl’s family will be preparing for their first Christmas without him and that is incredibly difficult.

"That is why we are so committed to finding out what happened that day and identifying this new key witness could be vital.

"This woman will know who she is and so we would ask her to come forward so we can provide some definitive answers to Darryl’s family.

"If anybody else saw what happened, or thinks they may be able to assist our investigation, we would ask you to contact us as soon as possible.

"You can contact us by calling 101 and quoting log 216 21/08/20 or reporting online on our website."
