Key update on £20m Bingham leisure centre following construction delays

A new multi-million pound leisure centre will be in full operation by next year, it has been announced. The Bingham Arena and Enterprise Centre has been beset by delays following 'national challenges within the construction industry'.

But Rushcliffe Borough Council, which is working with main contractor Willmott Dixon, now anticipates it will be completed within months, with an opening date to come soon. The existing Bingham Leisure Centre at The Banks will continue to operate by leisure operator Lex Leisure in its entirety until the transition to the new site is made.

In the new arena, there will be a fitness centre, spin and exercise studios, swimming pool, café and a community hall. The neighbouring Bingham Enterprise Centre will provide twelve self-contained office lets for small businesses over two floors that could create as many as 90 jobs.

Spectator seating for 330 people will accompany the pool and present new opportunities with swim instructors qualified to Swim England standard. The teaching pool will also ensure there is something for everyone no matter age or ability and lessons will be available seven days a week.

When it was granted approval, the anticipated cost of the project was £20m.
