Key Saints defender Kirk Broadfoot a major doubt for crunch Ross County clash

St Mirren’s defensive stalwart Kirk Broadfoot faces a race against time to be fit for Ross County’s visit to Paisley on Saturday.

The influential 35-year-old hobbled off during the 5-2 defeat to Hearts before the international break with a foot injury.

And despite the defender’s scan returning positive results last week, the Scotland international has been unable to hit the training pitch this week and is a major doubt for the weekend.

Saints gaffer Jim Goodwin said: “We’re still assessing Kirk but he hasn’t trained Monday or Tuesday.

“We’ll see how he is later on in the week. If he’s not available we’ve got a great replacement in Gary MacKenzie.

“He was excellent at the start of the season. He and Sean McLoughlin played very well together but, unfortunately, Gaz picked up that concussion at Dingwall.”

Saints look to have a fully fit squad, Broadfoot aside, with young attacking talents Kyle Magennis and Kyle McAllister expected to feature at the Simple Digital Arena.

Goodwin added: “Kyle Magennis will be fine. He took a kick on his ankle at Hearts and it was pretty bruised but it’s not anything the wee man won’t play through.

“McAllister has been training for the last couple of weeks and is available too.”
