Key rules you'll need to follow when gyms reopen - from social distancing to masks

Gyms will reopen across England on Monday, although there will be strict rules to restrict the spread of coronavirus.

Some of the measures include one-hour time limits and wearing face masks when you are walking between machines.

Gym chains are marking out special exercise zones to ensure social distancing - and even enforcing one-way systems.

Booking systems are also being reintroduced to avoid overcrowding, with deep cleans and sanitiser stations also set to return.

PureGym members will be be able to enter their local facility by using the company's app, meaning access is completely contactless.

Around 2,000L of fresh air will also be pumped into the chain's gyms every second.

However, people will only be able to exercise for a maximum of an hour, according to Mail Online.

Gym-goers must also wear face masks when moving between equipment, although they can be removed while working out.

The Gym Group said members should wipe down machines with paper towels after using them.

It also revealed that people will be able to use a live app to monitor how busy their local gym is.

The gym firm wrote on its website: "We have worked hard to ensure that the new layout of our gyms, the equipment in use and the placement of our cleaning and hand stations are optimal for the gym layout and maintaining a safe distance.

"All our equipment follows government guidelines in ensuring that members are a safe distance apart. When taking free weights, we ask members to be conscientious towards other members and respect the social distancing measures that are being enforced."

The firm added: "We do not currently allow for members to train with each other, even if you are from the same household or bubble.

"This is to ensure that there is still plenty of access around the gym, and avoids members from getting too close to one another.

"For health and safety while using equipment, spotting is permitted, however the spotter must be wearing a face mask. If you do not have a face mask, you should not be spotting."

David Lloyd Leisure clubs have introduced a one-way system in its studios to keep members apart.
