Key Maoist operative along Andhra Odisha Border arrested

VISAKHAPATNAM: Security forces on Monday arrested key member in the Andhra Odisha Border (AOB) Maoist squad, Korra Nageswara Rao, when he ventured out from the forest to surrender.

Nageswara Rao, a resident of Gillelabanda village in Chintapalli mandal of Alluri Sitarama Raju district and Maoist commander Sindri Chinna Ranga Rao had murdered one Sanjeeva Rao of Veeravaram village by branding him a police informer in October 2014.

The villagers of Veeravaram subsequently lynched district committee leader Sarat, militia network member Palasa Ganapati and Korra Nageswara Rao.

However, Nageswara Rao survived the injuries. Since then he has been playing a key role in the Korukonda Area Committee. He is allegedly involved in several murders and other offences in Chintapalli and GK Veedhi mandals.

According to sources, police took him into custody at Singavaram in Chitrakonda block, a border area of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, while he was venturing out to surrender. Police are tight-lipped over the arrest, which gives them a slight advantage over Maoists in Korukonda and the border areas of Odisha.
