Last summer double denim was THE way to wear denim. For 2011 it has moved on, thanks mainly to Dries Van Noten who channelled the British skinhead look with accents of bleached denim in his summer collection. Paired with soft cashmere, paint-spattered shirts and soft outerwear it looked fresh and modern and banished the 80s stonewash demons.

We love the faded denim wash of these jeans. Minimal and understated is a great look for summer. Roll up the hem and wear with a white t-shirt and tan leather sandals

Certain members of the Observer fashion desk have been quite vocal in the past about cargo shorts and their dislike thereof. In the interests of appealing to all tastes and keeping the peace we have included a pair in this gallery for your perusal. They are a pleasant shade of washed out chambray and will no doubt improve with age
