Key duo give Notts County injury boost ahead of AFC Fylde clash

Notts County have received a double injury boost after striker Nathan Tyson and Dion Kelly-Evans both returned to training.

Tyson has been struggling with a knee problem and hasn't played since the end of August, but the former Nottingham Forest forward was back with the squad this week.

Kelly-Evans has also missed the last three games after suffering a knock in training, with the right-back having been a standout performer since the season began.

Boss Neal Ardley says the duo are making good progress as they seek a return for the National League clash against AFC Fylde this weekend.

But the Notts manager says he will not be rushing them back into contention and will assess their fitness on Friday.

“We’ve got a return-to-play protocol and they’ve gone through some serious work,” he said of the pair.

“Dion and Nathan have both trained today (Thursday) and, touch wood, there has been no reaction and they’ll be in the session tomorrow.

“Whether Saturday’s too early or not, we’ll make that decision after looking at them tomorrow.

“But it’s certainly positive news for us.”

The return of Tyson and Kelly-Evans would be welcome for Ardley who has seen his squad decimated as a result of a crippling injury list.

Defender Ben Turner, who has a calf problem, will be out of the game this weekend but it is hoped he can return to light training next week.

Goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons is also out after falling awkwardly in training, while Scottish midfielder Jim O'Brien is a long-term absentee after requiring surgery on a broken arm.

Captain Michael Doyle is also out for the next two games due to a four-match ban that he incurred for his red card against Halifax earlier this month.
