Key decision looming for Top Valley's long-awaited Aldi supermarket

Top Valley's long-awaited Aldi store will be discussed next week at an important council meeting.

Scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, Nottingham City Council's licensing panel is due to discuss an application for a premises licence for the store off Hucknall Road. The meeting is due to be help virtually.

The supermarket, located near the Bulwell Forest Recreation Ground, has been on the cards for several years.

The project was delayed after a deep water well was found and minor site changes were approved by the authority last June.

The budget German chain said the Top Valley supermarket, and another planned south of Landmere Lane, in Edwalton, were both due to open this year.

Speaking earlier this month, a spokesman for Aldi said: "Our new store at Top Valley will open this summer and will have 140 car parking spaces and create up to 40 new jobs.

“Our new store at Edwalton will open later this year and will have 114 car parking spaces and also create up to 40 new jobs.

“Anyone interested to apply for a job at one of these store can find out more about the roles available at aldirecruitment.co.uk.”

Labour Councillor Sam Gardiner, who represents Bulwell Forest on the city council, and lives in Top Valley, told Nottinghamshire Live "it will be nice to have more variety".

"We are all waiting and quite excited to see the new opening of the Aldi. It's been a construction site (for some time)," he previously said.

"It's nice to finally see that that issue (delaying the project) has been resolved and we are going to get a new Aldi in the area."
