Key Celtic duo in close contact wait after international teammate tests positive for COVID-19

Celtic duo Kris Ajer and Moi Elyounoussi are embroiled in a fresh COVID-19 scare after Norwegian teammate Omar Elabdellaoui tested positive for the virus.

As reported by the Daily Record, the Parkhead club face an anxious wait before they discover whether either player will be identified as a close contact.

Norwegian football authorities are yet to say whether anybody else, in addition to Elabdellaoui, is required to self-isolate, however Celtic will be hoping to avoid a repeat of last month's international break which left them without Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard, Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed for big matches.

Norway's midweek clash with Israel was postponed due to a COVID case within the Israel squad.

However, providing there are no added complications, both Ajer and Elyounoussi should be free to play for Norway in Sunday's Nations League clash with Romania, and Wednesday's match with Austria.

Celtic will be desperate for both men to be available when they return to league action against Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday, 21 November.
