'Key behaviours' the government says you must follow to stay safe

The government has reiterated behaviours the public should observe in order to stay safe while the coronavirus pandemic continues.

On the government website, advice has been issued following a spike in coronavirus cases with the government urging the people to follow several "key behaviours".

On Wednesday, Boris Johnson hosted a press conference to confirm the rules regarding meeting people during the pandemic have changed.

Social gatherings of more than six people in England have been banned from Monday, September 14.

The Prime Minister hosted the conference after concern grew among rising cases in the UK.

The Government said that as of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 2,659 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus. Overall, 355,219 cases have been confirmed.

The Government said 41,594 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, an increase of eight on the day before.

Separate figures published by the UK's statistics agencies show there have now been 57,400 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

With the rule of six coming into effect on Monday, the government has stressed it is "critical" the public still follows specific "key behaviours".

On the government website, it states:

"With cases increasing in the UK, we all – businesses, individuals, and government – need to take action to suppress the virus.

Keep up to date with coronavirus cases in your area by adding your postcode below:

"It is critical that everybody observes the following key behaviours:

  • Hands – Wash your hands regularly and for 20 seconds.
  • Face – Wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
  • Space – Stay two metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or one metre with extra precautions in place."
