Kevin Thomson to quit Rangers and replace Barry Ferguson at Kelty Hearts

Kevin Thomson is set to leave Rangers and replace Barry Ferguson as Kelty hearts boss.

The newly promoted League Two outfit have been searching for a manager since the Ibrox legend left to take over at League One Alloa.

And they’ve gone for Ferguson’s former teammate Thomson, reports the Daily Record.

Former Hibs favourite Thomson has been working as a youth coach at Rangers but will leave the Scottish Premiership champions to take over at New Central Park.

It will be the former Middlesbrough man’s first management role as he looks to build on the work done by Ferguson in taking Kelty into the SPFL.

Thomson initially took Rangers’ Under 15 academy side before moving up to the Under 18s in 2019.

Kelty are expected to announce Thomson’s appointment within the next 48 hours.

Thomson spent three years at the Gers as a player after signing from boyhood club Hibs in 2007.

He left for Teeside but injuries blighted his time in England’s North East .

He then returned to Easter Road but suffered relegation from the top flight in 2014 and left for Dundee.

A short spell at Dens ended and he returned to Hibs in time to lift the Scottish Cup with the Hibees in 2016.
