Kevin Thomson fires back at John Collins as old Hibs wounds are reopened

Kevin Thomson has taken a seven iron to John Collins’ claims and insists his accusatory comments have left his blood boiling.

The pair had a fallout while at Hibs and Thomson was sold to Rangers just months into Collins' time in charge of the club after he had stripped the midfielder was stripped of the captaincy.

The former Celtic coach claimed it was because Thomson had failed to show up to an Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle after pulling out through injury.

And he also said he was worried about Thomson and fellow midfielder Scott Brown after the pair hired the controversial Willie McKay as his agent.

Thomson tweeted: "Had to stop listening!!! I’ve heard some s**** in my life, but that made me boil!!! One thing being a twat but being a liar is as low as it gets.

"Sore back? Willie McKay agent, first meeting was him complaining about us getting Willie, never once asked for advice before it."

Collins had been speaking to the BBC Scotland football podcast when he had said: "Two weeks into the job, Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson came to see me about changing their agents. I’m no daft, I can’t recommend them agents, but I told them an agent should be like a member of your family, someone you can trust, someone that is going to be there a long time.

“Two days later, I see the headlines in the paper, they’ve signed with Willie McKay, only one thing that happens there and that’s disruption. He wants to remove his players in the first transfer that’s available which was two months later.

"Kevin had a go at me in the Press as well after he was removed as captain. We were playing Hearts on the Saturday and he came to see to say he had a sore back and couldn't play.

"I said fine, go and have a shower, come and see us at the team hotel and come to Tynecastle. So we go to the hotel, Kevin isn't there, go to Tynecastle, he's not there. What do you do? The manager has told you to do something and you don't turn up, does he retain the captaincy?

"He didn’t behave like a captain, but he got his big move, he went to Rangers. I understand young players wanting their big moves, but at that stage I don't think it was the right way.

"It was the same with Scott (Brown). He wanted to go at the same time, but we persuaded him to stay because we wanted to win the cup and he did. He got in the Scotland team for the first time at Hibs, so when he goes away to negotiate his move to Celtic at the end of the season, he does it as a cup-winner, as a Scotland player."
