Kevin Thelwell makes exciting Sean McAllister admission after midfielder pens new Everton contract

Everton have extended the contract of teenage midfielder Sean McAllister.

The 19-year-old has impressed since joining the club's academy in 2019 and has now committed to the Blues for a further 12 months. The Northern Ireland youth international said he had loved his time at "family-orientated' Everton so far and looked forward to continuing his work with newly-promoted Under-21s head coach Paul Tait.

Director of football Kevin Thelwell welcomed the deal and praised McAllister for his "technical ability, energy, composure and a strong work-ethic".

McAllister is described by the club as "a hard-working midfielder with a varied passing range and eye for goal". Revealing his delight at the new deal the former Everton U18s captain said: "It feels brilliant to sign this contract. Myself and my family are so happy, as I’ve loved being at Everton ever since I joined three years ago.

"It’s such a family-orientated club. Everyone around the place makes you feel so welcome. Now I just want to kick on and improve all aspects of my game. I want to create more chances and develop my defensive play."

The deal means he will continue his work with Tait, recently appointed to the U21s top job from his former position as U18s head coach. McAllister said: "I am very excited to be working with Paul Tait again. When I heard the news that he was promoted to the U21s, I was over the moon. We have a very good relationship. He has helped me a lot on and off the field. I can’t wait for the new season start and I want to hit the ground running."

Meanwhile, Thelwell added: “We are very pleased Sean has signed a new contract. Sean has a lot of the key elements you require as a midfielder – technical ability, energy, composure and a strong work-ethic– and we are looking forward to helping him continue to progress."
