Kevin Spacey has made a rare public appearance after being cleared of sexual assault charges, to read aloud poetry which focuses on a persecuted man.

The Hollywood actor, who last month had a case accusing him of groping an 18-year-old man dropped, did the reading in Italy.

Italian poet Gabriele Tinti has said it was "an honour" to have Spacey read his poem in a surprise appearance in Rome.

Tinti wrote on Twitter: "What a wonderful night! Everyone was so happy to celebrate art, it was an honour to have Kevin Spacey reading my poems, Rome loves you! A picture is worth a thousand words ;)"

He added the hashtag #theboxer, the title of his poem about a tired fighter left bleeding by the ringside.

The Cape and Islands district attorney said they dropped the indecent assault and battery case brought against the actor last year.

Spacey was accused of getting an 18-year-old man drunk and then groping him at a Nantucket restaurant and bar where the teenager worked as a busboy.

Spacey denied the allegations.
