Kevin Spacey celebrates America’s birthday by selling $250 ‘adversity’ rings – and it’s not going down well

Kevin Spacey is cashing in on America’s 250th birthday.

The 66-year-old two-time Oscar winner, whose once-dominant Hollywood career unraveled after multiple men accused him of sexual misconduct in 2017, announced the release of new merchandise on Thursday.

“To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I created a limited-edition collectible ring engraved with Per Ardua Ad Astra— ‘Through adversity, to the stars,’” Spacey wrote on X.

“Each collector’s box is personally hand-signed by me at http://kevinspacey.store Very limited quantities available for 3 weeks only. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.”

The post included a photo of the House of Cards actor raising his fist to the camera, showing off the ring.

The personalized, autographed ring retails for $250, plus shipping, on Spacey’s website.

“Inspired by themes of power, ambition, and legacy, this limited-edition signet ring was created as an exclusive collector's piece for Kevin Spacey fans,” the official description reads.

On X, Spacey’s advertisement did not go down well.

“Frank Underwood would never support this opportunistic grab for cash in the presidents name,” one person wrote in the replies, referencing Spacey’s House of Cards character.

“Oh how the mighty have fallen,” wrote another.

“Proposing to my gf with the Kevin Spacey limited-edition collectible ring,” a third joked.

“Showing up to the function in my limited edition Kevin Spacey ring,” joked a fourth in a tweet that has garnered more than 12,000 likes.

In 2017, actor Anthony Rapp became the first to accuse Spacey of sexually abusing him. He claimed the incident occurred in 1986 when Spacey would have been 26, while Rapp was 14.

More than a dozen men subsequently accused Spacey of sexual misconduct, all of which he has either denied or insisted were consensual.

Rapp’s allegations were later dismissed by a Manhattan court in 2022, and in 2023, Spacey stood trial in the UK after four men alleged that he had sexually assaulted them in separate incidents between 2001 and 2013. He was again cleared of all nine offences.

Despite his acquittals, Spacey career has failed to recover to anything like its former heights. In recent years, he has worked on a string of low-budget independent and European productions, including the 2024 thrillers Peter Five Eight and The Contract.

However, during a recent appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Spacey said he is beginning to feel “more welcomed” in Hollywood again.

Asked if he remains in “show business jail” almost a decade after Rapp’s allegations, Spacey said: “I feel less in jail than I did.... I believe we’re at a point now where people are starting to look at what actually happened, and I feel much more welcomed, and I think that things are moving in the direction that we hoped they were moving in.”
