Kevin Smith’s imaginary restaurant Mooby’s will come alive in Chicago

Mooby’s, the fictional fast-food chain often seen in the films of Kevin Smith, will come to the real world for one week in Chicago.

The Fulton Market restaurant St. Lou’s Assembly will transform into Mooby’s as a Halloween stunt starting Oct. 30. The concept is designed around the restaurant mascot Mooby, a golden calf seen in Smith’s films “Dogma,” “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” and “Clerks II.”

Smith set up similar short-term Mooby’s ventures in California and New Jersey.

The pop-up will feature a retail store and photos from Smith’s movies. Entry is ticketed, and tickets will go on sale at 11 a.m. Thursday at moobyspopup.com.

Smith will make a semi-local drive-in appearance as part of the event. As his recurring film character Silent Bob, he’ll perform with partner Jason Mewes (as the voluble stoner Jay) Nov. 1 at the McHenry Outdoor Theater in far northwest suburban McHenry. Tickets are available now at the site above.
