Your full-page coverage of the Sports Personality of the Year award (Report, 21 December) manages only a meagre mention and not a single picture of Kevin Sinfield, who came second in the competition while representing a sport frequently ignored by the media. Sinfield achieved this not only because he is one of the greatest rugby league players ever, who has just captained his team to a triple crown, but because he has graced the sport with the modest, generous and dignified demeanour so lacking in many current sports stars.
The courage and good sportsmanship he displays have persuaded not only some of our great sports stars like Jonny Wilkinson and Paul Scholes to support him, but the whole rugby league family. If as a nation we wish to honour all that is good in our sporting heroes, then the least your newspaper could do is to celebrate Sinfield’s astonishing achievement, rather than publishing pictures of also-rans.
