Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Kevin-Prince Boateng on loan from Serie A side Sassuolo.

The 31-year-old former Tottenham midfielder arrives on a short-term deal for the rest of the season and will be presented to the media at Camp Nou on Tuesday.

“FC Barcelona and US Sassuolo have come to an agreement for the loan of the player Kevin-Prince Boateng for the rest of 2018-19,” the Catalan club said in a statement tonight.

Barca also revealed that they have an option to buy the player in the summer for €8 million.

The Liga leaders had been in the market for a forward player this month after striker Munir El Haddadi left to join Sevilla for a fee of €1.05m earlier in January.

Boateng could be in line to make his debut for Barca in the Copa del Rey away to Sevilla on Wednesday night.

The former Ghana international had confirmed the imminent move earlier in the day when he said: “It has been said to have to say goodbye to Sassuolo, but I’m focused on Barca now. Don’t ask me about Madrid… I hope to score in a Clasico.”
