Kevin Porter Jr. scores 21 in Phoenix, has career-high 14 assists

It wasn’t enough to get the win, but the Houston Rockets showed signs of a better future on Monday night in Phoenix.

Despite falling behind by 23 points at halftime, with the Suns tying the all-time NBA record with 18 made 3-pointers in a half, the Rockets battled back in the 126-120 defeat (box score). Christian Wood led the way with 25 points and 15 rebounds, while second-year guard Kevin Porter Jr. scored 21 points and set a new career-high with 14 assists.

Meanwhile, recent signing Armoni Brooks scored a career-high 14 points, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range (80%). It was a very impressive showing from Houston on the perimeter, considering that Phoenix is led by an All-Star guard duo in Devin Booker and Chris Paul.

Veteran guard John Wall shot a disappointing 5-of-20 from the field (25%), while numerous other veterans were out injured. Nonetheless, the performances by Houston’s younger options offered some hope for the rebuilding club, both for the immediate future and perhaps beyond.

Houston returns (14-40) to action on Wednesday, when Indiana visits Toyota Center. For now, enjoy highlights from Monday’s competitive loss.
