These professional athletes that we watch day after day competing at the highest levels of their sport are real people with real emotions, just like us.
And just like us, life can come at them pretty fast.
That happened to Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar on Tuesday when he learned that he had been traded to the San Francisco Giants. Just like that he and his family’s life got tossed upside as his days in Toronto, where he spent his first six seasons with, were over and it was time to move out West.
An emotional Pillar spoke to the media moments after the trade was announced and he was near tears for most of the time but especially when he was asked what was making him so emotional about leaving Toronto.
His answer to that? After a brief pause he said, “It’s all I’ve ever known.”
Pillar, who has just started his seventh season in the bigs and has had 129 or more hits in each of the past four seasons, is now off to his new home in San Francisco.
